CONGRATULATIONS:
Johnson Senior High School students Amanda Kelley, Roland Roger, MaiYing Vue, Cheng Xiong, Kia Xiong, and Justin Yang each received one of the $4,000 Horatio Alger Minnesota Scholar awards.
Johnson Senior High School Air Force JROTC Color Guard, under Lt. Comander Earl Juskowiak, presented the colors at the MSBA conference on January 14 at the Minneapolis Convention Center. Board Chair Elona Street-Stewart thought the "Color Guard did an outstanding job representing SPPS students.
Alexandria McKinley, a senior, received the Dease Scholarship from the University of St. Thomas. The scholarship is awarded to a senior who has shown exceptional leadership qualities. The scholarship provides a full, four-year scholarship, including books, housing and tuition, to attend the University of St. Thomas.
Amanda Kelley, a senior, received one of the four Beat the Odds scholarships from the Children's Defense Fund. Kelley received $4,000 and an additional $100 for wardrobe expenses.

for 3M Science Training Encouragement Program. (STEP): Zeinab Jeylani,
Pai Lee, Stepnanie Mangin, Carrissa Ontiveros, Charles Thao, Panghoua Thao, Mai Chue Xiong, Cheeyein Yang, Sue Yang.
The Science Training Encouragement Program (STEP) is a
partnership between
3M and the St. Paul School District. This program places students
at the center of discovery, challenge and opportunity. Through STEP,
students participate in the process of scientific discovery, and experience the invigorating environment of one of the world’s leading corporations.
Students
participate in classes at 3M from 12:00-2:00 on Mondays and Wednesdays from January through June and complete a full-time summer job for 9
weeks to 12 weeks at various departments within 3M. This is a terrific opportunity for Johnson
students.
JHS science teacher, Colin Denis, has just been named as a National Board Certified Teacher.

The Optimist Club of St. Paul awarded its annual scholarships for deserving youths to 7 Johnson High School students. Ming Thao, Gao Thao, Samuel Kollie, Hser Eh, Badhaftu Kadir, Alexandria McKinley and Cheng Xiong were awarded $1.500 each in scholarships Thursday evening, November 12.

Kia Lor named as a Gates Millennium Scholar! She is one of 1,000 nationally / 17 statewide, the first ever from Johnson High School. This scholarship provides an all expense-full ride to college and post graduate study at their college of choice. Kia will be attending the College of St. Benedict in St. Joseph, MN.
