The AP Advantage: Opportunities for Talented and Motivated Students

  • WHAT IS AP?

AP stands for Advanced Placement.  This is the program developed by American colleges through their College Board to serve the needs of talented and motivated high school students who want to earn college credit while still in high school.

The program is designed to cover the content of specific college courses, and involves taking the AP course at your high school, and then taking the AP test in that area in May.

You may earn college credits for your test score.  The higher the score, the more credits most schools award you.

  • WHAT IS THE AP ADVANTAGE?

Because the curriculum for each AP test is developed by a nationwide effort of college professors, the AP class on your transcript will mean very definite things to college admissions officers and scholarship committee members.  They know this program and what is involved, and find it to be one of the best indicators of future college performance and success.

  • No other program offers you the advantages AP offers:
    • it is designed by and for American colleges
    • it is granted credit by more colleges than any other program
    • it allows students to take several courses, or focus
      on their strongest areas
    • it is regarded highly as an indicator of future success by admissions officers and scholarship reviewers.
  • The AP Advantage at Johnson:
    • It motivates gifted students and high achievers
