Ben Jelen
BenJelen's new album, Ex-Sensitive
BenJelen's new album, Ex-Sensitive

By: Judy Hang

Singer-songwriter, Ben Jelen's new album Ex-Sensitive, out now, brings on to the table a sonic-rock-pop-alternative genre. He traveled around the world to study numerous instruments and musical styles and sounds-that comes quick into focus, which he uses an Indian sitar on his first song “Pulse”.

“Pulse”, is the lead song of the album, it expresses his thoughts on the way the world has so many conflicts and how we’ll all deal with it. His unique way of melodic music would be nice to listen to while driving on a road trip on a long road ahead. Jelen states that his album is about “the planet earth and everyone in it.” Which is very different compared to his first album –which had more of the Brit-pop-poster boy feel, talking about love and lost, based on his ex-girlfriend.

This album is much more of a cohesive and pretentious album that tells a story of how to have hope for the future. This is a universal album it can be related to other things on many levels. Through-out this album it fairly represents the ex-sensitivity it was going for.

Tracks such as “Where do we go from here” is one of the tracks where it can be representation of other ideas on many different levels. The track “Weckage” shows that Ben Jelen really has a talent in ballad songwriting, and this is a very good album to have a great listen. Jelen’s new album is a overwhelming soulful sonic blast that you simply have to listen to more then once.

All in all I'd recommend you give a listen to Ben Jelen or at least give it a try. On a scale of one to five, five being a great listen, one being not so great, I would give Jelen a four. So if you're into a unique sound and meaningful ballads you should deffinately consider listening to Ex-Sensitive out in stores now.
