To the Cross Country runners at Johnson High School, this sport is not just about running. There is an art to these long runs, an art of form, speed, agility and endurance. It may only be the beginning of the season but this team is well on there way to a championship!
Running might seem easy but these runners prepare a lot to be as good as they are. The runners work hard and long to prepare themselves to run against the competitors. Some runners on the team were willing to share there hopes, goals and secrets about the 2007 season.

What are your hopes for this year’s season?
“I’m hoping that we start out with a bang! We have so much talent on this team, but talent can only take us so far, everyone has to pull there own weight to manage a victory in our meets.”
Do you feel your team needs to patch anything up to make yourselves better?
“We still have a runner or two who is a little selfish on the team. They know who they are.”
How do you think the season is going to end?
“I think we’ll finish this season middle of the conference.”
Sophomore Chris Stevenson
How is the team looking so far this season?
“ We are looking promising, Every one always gives 100 percent day in and day out. I’m excited.”
How do you prepare for Cross Country meets?
“ I drink a lot of water, eat the right foods, and get a good night sleep the night before the meet.”
How do you think the team will finish in the conference?
“I think we will do fairly well. In fact, I think if we keep up the work we could win conference.”
These guys are in it to win it. The team is exactly that. A team, and they work hard every day to keep moving forward. Every member on the team counts, and contributes towards the teams success.
Junior Captain Alex Salas
Who is your biggest rival?
“ Como Park is definitely our rival. They always are. We played them our first meet and won.”
Who are the teams strongest players?
“ We are a team. There are no individuals.”
We wish our Cross Country team the best of luck this year. Go get ‘em guys!!
