Every year at the end of the month in May we receive yearbooks. This year the theme is The Story So Far, but the real story so far is the poor sales of the book and why aren’t kids buying them. With almost 200 books sold already and a school population of about 1600 kids whose not buying books? There are Lots of questions with little answers. Going to the main source: the students asking them why haven’t they bought a book and do they think they’re expensive? Seniors Brandon Bell and Joe Calendar’s only reason for not buying one was “cause it’s $45”, although Joe thinks that the “books are affordable for people who work”, Brandon says “with $45 I can buy some shoes”. That goes true with a lot of students why buy a book when I can buy clothes and shoes. The thing is with these books they are way cheaper than let’s say a pair of hundred dollar Jordans or even a pair of 150-dollar UGG boots. Sophomore Sharissa Williams is like a lot of underclassmen that haven’t bought a book yet because they wants to wait till her senior year. That’s the problem with the book; it’s only geared and advertised to the seniors. The seniors get parent ads and the only color section in the book. So why should underclassmen buy one? Editor Ashlee Aguilera puts in her opinion about why they should. “A lot of people won’t buy books till their senior year, but letting them know that they’re in the book might help”. That’s why this year Mr. McDonald is not only putting in the usual parent ads, but friendship ads too. Where you and your friends can share a whole page just about you guys. Some people are going to buy one just haven’t gotten the time to buy one. Senior Sai Yang and Junior James Dalbec are prime examples. “Haven’t got the time to get the money to pay for one, but I’m buying one. (Dalbec). One of the editors of the yearbook Ashlee Aguilera and most of the yearbook class feel like know one knows about the book or just plainly don’t care. “We need to make more posters and announcements, but no one really cares any more”. Is that the type of school we are attending? A school where you can’t even show some spirit and buy a book to remember the good times you had during the school year. Who cares if you’re not a senior still buy one, you’ll regret it when the book comes out and you’re the only one that doesn’t have one. $45 is sensible so buy a yearbook, you’ll be glad you did!
