 | | | | | Mohawk Frenzy. by Sam Wirth Back in the day, mohawks used to be a symbol of being independent and not caring about anything, but nowadays things have changed, and what is the deal with a small population of Johnson High students?
Everybody has their own reason for doing what they do, and an explanation was needed as to why these rebels decided to leave a patch of hair in the middle of their heads. It is very stereotypical for people to automatically think someone with a mohawk is a trouble maker and is up to no good, but that is completely false…well not completely.
Senior junior varsity football star Kevin Kiemen falls into the stereotype. When asked why in the world do you have a mohawk, he responded “Me and a couple of the boys on the football team wanted to look mean! We figured there would be two ways to accomplish that. Option A: take steroids or Option B: get mohawks. We debated for a while then decided on Option B.” Kiemen was then asked about the responses he was getting from his friends, family, and just everyone in general. “Well when I had normal hair, girls only thought of me as one thing. A book worm. Now the only word they can describe me as is pozaz. My parents think I’m an idiot, but it doesn’t even matter to me I love it!”
Something that Kiemen said caught my attention. He said back when he had “normal hair”. What is normal today everyone has their own style and like to express themselves freely. A mohawk is a perfect way to do that. Especially in Kiemen’s case.
When Senior Mike Heissler was asked why he got “a hawk” his answer was similar to Kiemen’s. “I just wanted to look mean.” Typical males and their testosterone. But whatever, let males be males. Heissler , formerly a football player really has nothing to look mean for. He is a gruesome wrestler though, battling in the 115 pound weight class division.
Apparently the football players with mohawks think the girls are just in love with their new style of hair. Senior Adam Fisher claimed “They want me.” Of course talking about the attention the girls have given him since he trimmed up the sides.
I had to get a female perspective on this, so I went fishing for some answers. Senior Brittany Linell is an expert on males, so she was asked on her opinion on the Mohawk. “ I think they make the guys look very attractive, and it makes them look a lot more intmidating.”
Looks like Fisher was right. This Mohawk craze finally has some answers, so look around for these hair masterpieces.
