Natural Resources & Physical Sciences Academy
This academy will foster an appreciation for balancing outdoor activities and urban development with the protection of the natural world. Students will have opportunities to explore Minnesota’s natural resources while pursuing interests in ecology, forestry and biotechnology. Study topics may include environmental law, biology, environmental science, and Minnesota geography..

Students in this academy enjoy working outside; studying wildlife; working to improve our environment; making discoveries; and hiking, canoeing, hunting, camping, fishing.

Students are developing these skills:
Hands-on lab science techniques
Research and data analysis skills
Critical and independent thinking skills
Problem solving skills

Students will experience job shadowing and internship experiences with companies and organizations like the MN Department of Natural Resources, MN Pollution Control Agency, St. Paul Parks and Recreation, Ramsey Metro Watershed District
Community service experiences will include planting and maintaining gardens around JHS, organizing local community cleanups, monitoring the water quality of local lakes and rivers.

Senior Projects for students in this academy might include developing a community garden, building a canoe, installing solar panels in a home, learning how to rock climb
