| American Experience |  | American Experience Expectations Domstrand 112
Students will survey the American experience encompassing a wide variety of literary genre. Writing will emphasize use of appropriate language skills for a variety of academic purposes and audiences. Vocabulary, comprehension, fluency, and analysis of American literature and the English language will be included. Students will be reading and writing responses to historical perspectives. A research paper will be developed from the student’s choice of artists/authors and their reflections of American culture. Texts will include Prentice Hall The American Experience, short stories, fables, and parables; novels and excerpts of novels; nonfiction; drama; poetry; epics, legends, and myths.
Expectations for this class will include regular reading and written assignments in preparation for vocabulary, comprehension, and written works in response to readings. Research for a visual and written presentation will be expected. ß Homework is a regular expectation. Student grading will be by percentage of work accomplished with grade equivalent quality. You can do as well as you desire. I will work with you!! 100-90%= A 89-80%= B 79-70%= C 69-60%= D ß Passing = above 59% of work credit!! Parental contact and personal contracts may be arranged as needed if a student chooses to fail.
ß No food, juice, pop, hats, jackets, headphones or other tech “stuff” should be in class. Please, use behavior appropriate for learning in class!
ß Missing assignments are the responsibility of the student. Work time for makeup will be the number of days you have missed plus one. If work is later than this, it may receive only 50% of the possible credit. I realize situations arise that affect student ability to complete work on time. If there are circumstances beyond your control, please communicate with me and I will consider your situation.
