*Class will begin with learning one of the most important info gathering techniques of interviewing. We will be interviewing a partner in class and writing a news article about that person. Partner interviews should be organized and written in a minimum of 5 paragraphs.

2-2 Term sheets for journalistic "literacy" was given. Reading in text on pages 2-15. Found these terms in the newspaper and applied them to what we see in the paper.

2-3 Quiz on the readings 2-15 and discussion of the impact of media. Homework was to read  pgs 24-31. Crossword puzzle given for the term sheet handed out on Mon.

2-4 Terms in opening on page 24 were defined. Kinds of mass media and purposes of media were discussed. reading expected and quiz on the given pages.

2-5 Choose one media and write what is in it and how much of it is advertising and entertainment... then how much is information.

2-6 Survey questions were created and there was a practice run on how and why we ask different questins. Analyzed the resulting conclusions of the statistics that we found. Flaws in the reasoning and questioning were considered.  Students then asked to edit the school paper which just came out this semester. Points were given for all errors found.

2-10 Introduced the letter of application to a staffing position on the publication we will be creating in class. Staffing groups are NEWS, FEATURE, EDITORIAL, SPORTS,  and ART.  Each staffing group has its own angle to the writing we seek to compose.

2-11 Letters of introduction were started and will be written on portable computers tomorrow when we have Hal visiting.

2-12 Letters of Application for jobs on the staff will be collected.

2-13 Reading articles from the staffing groups that have been chosen and writing the leads (the 5 w's) and  a summary of the articles. Attach the articles to the summaries and leads and hand them in. Homework was the first DOL for editing practice.
