About Us
John A. Johnson Senior High School is located on the historic east side of Saint Paul. Johnson is a 9-12 school with approximately 1600 students and an average class size of 28.5.

The building is a two-story brick structure which includes a half lower level walkout to the west used for vocational, art, and physical education facilities. In the building's 218,000 square feet are classrooms, media center with computer lab, cafeteria, gymnasium and field house, pool, auditorium, health clinic, and well-equipped labs in science, family and consumer science, business and web design. We are also home to a program for autistic students, an Air Force Junior ROTC program, a Business and Marketing Management Specialty Magnet.

Johnson Senior High School features a four-quarter, four-period-day schedule. This gives students more choices and more in-depth learning than other types of school schedules. Further, by scheduling classes for the entire year, students are encouraged to participate in their educational planning.

In addition to a full range of general and special education courses, Johnson offers Advanced Placement (AP) courses. Students also can earn college credit through various programs including Advanced Placement (AP), College in the Schools (CIS), post-secondary options, Medical Careers Apprenticeship Program and Metropolitan State University courses offered at Johnson. Students receive training in computer technology through course work and lab experiences. School to Future is a new focus which guides students in post-secondary decision making and career planning. Plans at the school are under way to establish several career academies, creating small learning communities to help students make decisions for the future.
